Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to the White House
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
