The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
