The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
