The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
