A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The motive of the incident has not been established and no arrests have been made, according to authorities.

Details of the Attack

Authorities said that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," authorities confirmed.

Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but collapsed a short distance away.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.

Important clues, like cartridges, were found at the location.

Appeal for Witnesses

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.

Family and Public Reaction

His family member, a close relative, stated the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She urged the community to refrain from sharing explicit content from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's young family.

His Professional Legacy

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a South African TV network.

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, supplying high-level security services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.

He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and assisted with property reclaimations.

Condolences Pour In

His killing has caused national trauma and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official remarked he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's untimely death.

"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," the minister added.

A public representative commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".

A industry leader expressed that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an indefinable mark."

In a statement, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will endure".
