Ex- Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician now faces charges for committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police are urging anyone with concerns to get in touch with the relevant police force.
