A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
